Audiovisual Council members to be selected under new regulation

Chisinau, 9 September /MOLDPRES/- Parliamentary Committee on Culture, Education, Research, Youth, Sports and Media yesterday approved Regulation on organization and conduct of competition for the selection of candidates for the position of member of the Audiovisual Council.

According to the new document, the commission's head will ask public entities to nominate two candidates for each vacant position of board member and will announce the competition for candidates proposed by civil society organizations. Following the competition, the candidates will be nominated and will be proposed to the plenary of the Parliament.

Candidates for the position of member of the Audiovisual Council must meet several conditions. One of them is a bachelor's degree and experience of at least five years in audiovisual, journalism and communication, law, film, culture, information technology or advertising. Also, the candidate may not be a member of a party and may not hold, directly or indirectly, interests, including financial interests, in media service providers or distributors, electronic communications undertakings or in advertising companies.

At the end, the Commission will present in the plenary of the Parliament a draft decision nominating the candidates who obtained the highest score in the competition.

According to the legislation, the members of the Audiovisual Council are appointed by the decision of the Parliament, adopted with the vote of the majority of the deputies present. If one of the candidates does not meet the required number of votes, within ten working days, a new competition is announced for the vacant position.
