Cigarettes worth over 1 million lei found by customs officers in sand truck

Chisinau, 9 September /MOLDPRES/- About 2 million cigarettes, worth 1 million lei, were found by customs officers in a sand truck.
According to the Customs Service, the attempt to illegally transport tobacco products was stopped at the internal customs control post Hârbovăț yesterday around 21.00. The accompanying documents indicated that the vehicle was transporting sand for construction, in the amount of 24 tons.
During the specialized control, the customs officers found under a layer of sand of about 30 cm, 190 boxes of pressed paper, containing a total of 1,900,000 cigarettes, Ashima. This is the largest catch carried out by the Customs Service in the last four years.
According to preliminary information, the value of tobacco products on the black market of the Republic of Moldova is estimated at over 1 million lei.
A criminal case was initiated in this case. If found guilty, the driver of the truck risks 4 to 10 years in prison.
