Moldovan PM meets special representative of OSCE chairperson-in-office

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița met with Thomas Mayr-Harting, OSCE chairperson-in-office's Special Representative for the Transnistrian settlement process, the government's communications and protocol department has reported.

The sides exchanged views on future business plans and solutions to basic issues related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.

The discussion established the promotion of confidence-building programs for citizens on both banks of the Dniester, in areas such as health, agriculture, infrastructure, human rights, free movement.

In the context of the Agreement on the issue of neutral numbers for cars registered in the Transnistrian region, the need to identify a solution that responds to the interests of citizens, based on a reasonable discussion, was emphasized.

Natalia Gavrilița said that structural reforms and the creation of functional institutions are priorities for the government in Chisinau, along with the fight against corruption and illegal schemes, the elimination of smuggling and ensuring the efficiency of state-owned enterprises.

"Our goal is to improve the quality of life, so that all people want to live in the Republic of Moldova. We will create more efficient mechanisms for inter-ministerial collaboration, including for the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute. We want to make sure that the resolution of conflicts is based on the national interest ", the premier said.

Gavrilița also noted that Chisinau supplies Tiraspol with both vaccines received through multilateral or bilateral channels, as well as those purchased from state funds. This approach will remain unchanged in the future, and cooperation in this regard will continue.

Natalia Gavrilița appreciated the position of the partners who remain firmly committed to the peaceful resolution of the conflict through diplomacy and 5 + 2 negotiations, in the context in which all participants support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders.
