Moldova likely to have new Railway Transport Code

Chisinau, 15 September /MOLDPRES/- Draft of new Railway Transport Code is to be debated at the next plenary session of Parliament.

According to the parliament secretariat, the draft of the new code was drafted by the Government and registered in the Parliament on June 11, 2020, but was not examined in any reading and, respectively, became null and void.

According to the authors, the implementation of the new Railway Transport Code will eliminate the monopoly of the State Enterprise Moldovan Railway on the railway services market. Thus, the railway infrastructure will continue to belong to the state, and the services of traction, passenger transport and freight will be able to be provided by private operators.

Increased attention in the new document is paid to passenger transport services. In this respect, the draft creates the necessary legal basis for the approval of the strict rules for rail passenger transport regarding the provision of passenger transport services, the mode of service, the compensation mechanism and other issues related to the protection of consumer rights in this field.

The draft Code is developed for the implementation of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova, on the one hand, and the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community and their member states, on the other hand, and other agreements signed by our country with European partners.
