Moldovan composer to be commemorated in Drochia, 140 birth anniversary

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/- ICR Mihai Eminescu Institute in collaboration with the District Museum of History, Ethnography and Art from Drochia, the District Council and the Directorate of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports from Drochia organize a lot of events to mark the 140th anniversary of the birth of great Romanian composer George Enescu in Drochia. The events will take place today, at the headquarters of the above-mentioned museum, starting with 11.00.
According to an ICR press release, events will take place, in compliance with the restrictions imposed by the Moldovan health authorities, according to the following program: opening of the ICR Chisinau exhibition: "George Enescu - personality of Romanian and universal culture" at the Art Gallery of Drochia District Museum of History, Ethnography and Art. Presents: acad. Valeriu Matei, director of ICR Chisinau. Duration of the exhibition: September 18 - October 22.
The event will be attended by acad. Valeriu Matei, director of ICR Chisinau, Aurel Melniciuc, director of the Botoșani County Museum in Romania, Liviu Andronic, director of the “George Enescu” Popular Art School, Botoșani County, Cristina Țurcanu, head of the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports Department of the Drochia District Council Dumitru Postovan, director of the District Museum of History, Ethnography and Art in Drochia. The events will end with a concert by students and teachers of the Music School from Drochia in the Great Hall of the nominated museum.

He was elected Doctor Honoris Causa of the Conservatory of Music and Declamation in Iași (1942). 2005 was declared the "George Enescu" International Music Year.
He died on May 4, 1955, in Paris.
