Foreign ministry press service commentary on opening of polling stations in Transnistria

Chisinau, 18 September /MOLDPRES/- Commentary of the MAEIE press service on the opening of polling stations in the Transnistrian region - elections for the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

As regards opening of polling stations in the Transnistrian region in the September 19 elections for the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration regrets that, despite the position consistently expressed by the Moldovan authorities, the Russian side acted manner that does not meet the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova and the bilateral legal framework.

The Ministry notes that in response to the address of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova on the organization of parliamentary elections on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, on July 30, the Russian side was notified of the lack of impediments to open polling stations in Moldovan constitutional authorities.

At the same time, the MAEIE asked the Russian side to refrain from opening the 27 polling stations in the localities of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, including given the impossibility of ensuring the necessary security conditions for the election.
