Chisinau, 27 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) deems as badly necessary the improvement of the electoral legislation and the related one. In the context, CEC initiates the revision of the normative framework related to the electoral sector.

To achieve this goal, at the first stage, a working group will be set up within CEC, the task of which will be to analyze thoroughly the Electoral Code and the related legislation. During about two months, the Commission’s members and civil servants are set to identify the current gaps and deficiencies in the electoral legislation, consider communications by the Constitutional Court, notifications made by the electoral subjects in elections, as well as the conclusions and recommendations contained in the reports of the observation missions of the last national elections.

At the second stage, after the working out of a first future draft law, CEC will send the elaborated document to non-governmental organizations specialized in the electoral field and relevant experts. After the latter’s commentaries are processed, the working group will give the final touches to a final draft, due to be made public in early February 2022.

Subsequently, CEC intends to start wide consultations with the help of experts in electoral matters, political parties, civil society, development partners and other authorities involved in elections’ organization. They will consolidate the efforts of the central electoral authority in terms of improvement of the Electoral Code and the concerned legal framework in the field.
