Chisinau, 28 September /MOLDPRES/ - A campaign for informing and mobilizing students and young people from Moldova as to the vaccination against COVID-19 was launched in Chisinau today.

The campaign will last two months and will be held with the slogan, Give a helping hand, be vaccinated!, and is aimed at informing the students about the need and importance of the immunization, as well as at their mobilizing for vaccination, through enhancing the accessibility to immunization. The event takes place at an initiative by the Health Ministry and the Education Ministry, along with the Association of Students and Residents in Medicine and will be carried out with the support of the European Union and the World Health Organization (WHO).

„You, the young people, have a chance, not only by the fact that you can give a helping hand directly, but also through the fact that you can get vaccinated and continue the education at university desks. At the same time, you can be an example for your families and the people around you,’’ Health Minister Ala Nemerenco said at the launch event.

During the launch, the rectors of the higher education institutions from Moldova signed an appeal, thereby assuming the involvement and responsibility for a better management and implementation of the campaign. At the same time, each rector received a set of information materials, which are to be distributed in university campuses and students’ hostels.

The young people’s vaccination process will be organized with the help of the Territorial Medical Associations from Chisinau and the Association of Students and Residents in Medicine. At each university, the vaccination process will be coordinated by a pro-rector nominated.

The campaign’s goal is to inform the students of the cycles of Degree, Master and Doctor’s Degree from all education years, the groups where the subjects are taught in Romanian and Russian, as well as the groups of day students, as well as extra-mural ones. At the same time, the campaign will put emphasis on the informing and vaccination of teachers from universities, as well as the auxiliary employees from the institutions.

Health Ministry’s data shows that the rate of vaccination in the age group of 18-24 years is presently 18.1 per cent.
