Chisinau, 1 October /MOLDPRES/ - The agriculture ministers of Moldova and Romania have agreed on the promotion of Moldovan products in Romania and other European Union markets. To this end, Viorel Gherciu on 30 September held discussions with his Romanian counterpart Adrian Oros. The sides analyzed opportunities of enhancing the bilateral cooperation in the agriculture sector, extending the present partnerships and identifying new development projects in the agriculture field.

Viorel Gherciu said that the farmers from Moldova were interested in strengthening the level of competitiveness through the promotion of agricultural products in Romania, as well as on third markets.

„Moldova’s government has as priority the stimulation of the agricultural activity, as the sector represents an important chain of the national economy. In this respect, the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) encourages the native farmers to start and maintain viable businesses, generate high-quality products, which are to meet the EU requirements and which are to ensure long-term profitableness,’’ the minister stressed.

At the meeting, the officials tackled important subjects of bilateral cooperation, in  order to establish common major priorities in the field of transport of agro-food products, with the goal to facilitate the process of crossing the border in a short time, so that trucks do not stay in customs checkpoints too much. Also, Gherciu expressed interest in taking over the good practices dealing with the implementation of the strategy of promotion of native goods, with emphasis on the mechanisms of promoting and extending the local and international markets.

Other subjects discussed by the ministers regarded the cooperation with the Romanian side on the preservation, selection and improvement of the animal genetic resources; extension on Romania’s market of the quality maize seed material and hybrids from Moldova, through the genetics of the Plant Growing Institute; boosting the trade with agro-food products; establishing partnerships with commercial networks, in order to promote Moldovan products locally.

In the context, Romanian minister Adrian Oros expressed willingness for the continuing of the cooperation between the payments agencies, based on a protocol signed between the institutions. At the same time, he said that the dimension of the exchange of experience and taking over of good practices would be stimulated, in order to update the legislation on rural development and implement the LEADER Programme in Moldova.
