Chisinau, 4 October /MOLDPRES/- Runoff elections in the People's Assembly took place in 11 constituencies in Gagauzia yesterday, and repeated elections were held in six constituencies, with no mandatory attendance threshold.

According to the Gagauz Autonomy Electoral Commission, 24,789 citizens took part in the October 3 election, which is 37% of the number of voters included in the lists.

The highest participation rate, of 78.2%, was registered in the Bugeac constituency, where Vladimir Cîssa defeated Alexandr Chendighelean, and the lowest participation rate, of only 37.2%, was found in the Baurci constituency, where Grigori Cadin won with 1076 votes.

After the elections, the plot was kept in 11 constituencies, where it was to have a second round of voting, as no candidate managed to get over 50 percent of the vote.

According to the election results, in 18 constituencies the regional deputies were elected in the first round. At the same time, in six constituencies the elections were not valid due to the low turnout at the polls, less than 33.3% of voters. In these sectors, repeated elections took place on October 3, but without a mandatory turnout.

On September 19, in the Gagauz autonomy, the citizens had to elect, by direct vote, 35 local deputies, for a term of four years. 123 candidates were registered for this election. For the first round of elections, the region's authorities have allocated over three million lei.

According to several observers who monitored the elections in Gagauzia, neither in the first round nor in the second, no serious violations were registered, the electoral process being exercised in accordance with the legislation.
