Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/- Agricultural producers, owners of villas and tourist boarding houses, representatives of the local administration and members of the cultural sector from Drochia district recently participated in a training seminar on organization of rural agrotourism. Methods and tactics of promoting agri-food products and tourist attractions in the area of Chetrosu village were discussed.

The event kicked off the Rural Development by Promoting Agrotourism and Traditional Products in the Republic of Moldova component, supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The component is implemented by the Federation of Farmers of the Republic of Moldova (FARM), and for its implementation were identified two strategic points in the northern and southern part of the country - Drochia and Cahul.

Through the project, those actors who are interested in getting involved in the development of agrotourism, by promoting local products, will be identified and encouraged. In the Drochia district, the village of Chetrosu and the nearby localities were selected, because the geographical location is famous for the diversity of vegetables and fruits, mainly ecological, but also for the tourist objectives.

Deputy Representative of FAO in Moldova Tudor Robu said that the transformation of agrotourism is closely related to the use of local flavors. They need to be transformed into a brand that is internationally recognized. "We wanted to support our country in increasing the competitiveness of agri-food products, which would also open new avenues for export. When I was sketching the project, together with foreign experts, I tried several traditional Moldovan dishes, and they concluded that we need to help people promote traditional food and special places, "said Tudor Robu.

"We will draw up a map with geographical areas and agri-food products, we will make a series of leaflets, meant to attract and inform visitors, and we will produce and install tourist signs. Also, these destinations will be promoted in the written press, in the online environment and on social networks, through written and video materials ", FARM deputy director Iurie Hurmuzachi said.
