Chisinau, 6 Ocotber /MOLDPRES/- Foreign citizens who have reached retirement age and apply for temporary residence permits in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from new facilities. The members of the Parliamentary Commission for National Security, Defense and Public Order approved today the report in the first reading on the draft Law on the regime of aliens in the Republic of Moldova.
The draft sees setting a new type of residence permit - for retired people who want to settle in the Republic of Moldova on a long-term basis. Thus, the right to temporary residence will be granted or extended to foreign citizens, who are socially insured in the states with which the Republic of Moldova has concluded cooperation agreements in the social field.
To get a temporary residence permit, foreign nationals must meet certain conditions: to present proof that they have a place to live for a period of not less than that for which the right of residence is requested; have sufficient income for maintenance and living in the Republic of Moldova; benefit from the right to an old-age pension.
In recent years the number of people, beneficiaries of pensions from European Union countries, who apply for temporary residence permits in the Republic of Moldova has increased. This is explained by the lower costs for care, treatment and rehabilitation services, compared to those in European countries, which makes it attractive for this category of foreign nationals.
At the same time, the authors mention that the introduction of this new type of residence permits could stimulate some sectors of the economy, especially those in the field of services.
Currently, the granting of the right of temporary residence in the Republic of Moldova for foreign citizens is made for a period of up to 5 years.
