Moldovan cabinet approves actions to strengthen border security in 2021-2023

Chisinau, 6 October /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved an action plan for 2021-2023 on the implementation of the national strategy of integrated management of the state border. The document’s goal is to strengthen the border security and facilitate the crossing of the border, contributing, at the same time, to the achievement of the objective of joining the EU.   

According to the government’s communication and protocol department, the priorities set for the next period regard the prevention and combating of the cross-border criminality, optimizing the state’s actions in the migration sector, as well as the development of the inter-institutional and international cooperation to ensure the border security. At the same time, the document sees activities of professional training of the employees from the system, including through the exchanging of experience within international missions and their training based on special programmes.   

Among the actions provided for in the document, there are: endowing the border police with modern equipment, improving the labour conditions and of the social package for the staff; modernization of the infrastructure of the state border crossing points. Also, they propose the shortening of the time for charging customs duties for goods, as well as the automation of the control procedures at the crossing of the border, through implementing an electronic system of queues’ management. The plan also includes actions concerning the joint control and patrol at the Moldovan-Romanian and Moldovan-Ukrainian borders.   

The estimated cost for carrying out the plan approved is of about 270 million lei. It is to be covered from the budgets of the authorities involved (General Inspectorate of Border Police, Customs Service, Defence Ministry), as well as from other external sources.
