Chisinau, 8 October /MOLDPRES/ - Alexandr Stoianoglo has been placed under home arrest for 30 days. Magistrates of the Chisinau Court adopted a ruling to this effect today.
The decision can be appealed at the Court of Appeal in a 15-day period.
The case prosecutor, Victor Furtuna, informed that Stoianoglo was prosecuted on five counts. ‘’Stoianoglo is accused in five extremely serious offences, for which the law provides for punishment with imprisonment. We ascertained, in the criminal prosecution, that he favoured an organized crime ring, I think it is not the case for me to say what group, it is about the group led by Veaceslav Platon, whom he helped revise a final court ruling, escape imprisonment, avoid the submitting of suspicions on certain counts, enforce other criminal schemes, which are already implemented and are in incipient phase,’’ Furtuna said.
Today, the lawyers of Stoianoglo demanded the challenging of the judge who was to consider the approach submitted by the case prosecutor, Victor Furtuna; yet, the demand was turned down.
Also today, more people protested outside the Court’s building and several MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists submitted a letter of guarantee on the name of Stoianoglo.
Alexandr Stoianoglo was detained two days ago just before giving a news briefing.
