UN Moldova launched annual Human Rights Awards competition

Chisinau, 15 October /MOLDPRES/- The United Nations in Chisinau has launched the 16th edition of the competition for the UN Human Rights Awards, 2021 edition, in order to recognize the most valuable actions for the promotion and defense of human rights in the Republic of Moldova. The deadline for registration of candidates is 15 November.

The competition aims to highlight and reward the most creative, innovative, effective, timely and participatory initiatives and actions to defend and promote human rights in Moldova on both banks of the Dniester River.

This year's competition includes four prizes, as follows: the General prize for a remarkable achievement in the field of human rights for the years 2020, 2021; the award for outstanding achievement in the field of human rights at the local level for the years 2020, 2021; the special award for outstanding achievements in the field of rights to health, education, employment and / or social protection in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic between March 2020 and October 15, 2021; special award for groups / organizations for active involvement in promoting equality and non-discrimination for the years 2020, 2021.

Nominations for any of the mentioned awards can be made online, in Romanian, Russian, English or in another minority language present in the Republic of Moldova. The proposed candidates can be individuals or entities, whose activities were undertaken between October 15, 2019 - October 15, 2021, and the Award for outstanding achievement in human rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic - March 7, 2020 - October 15 2021. Both third party nominations and self-nominations are accepted.

Nominations / self-nominations will be evaluated according to several criteria: impact on human rights; innovation and creativity; dedication and commitment; courage in approaching difficult topics or issues; communication and visibility; durability; professionalism and compliance with the highest standards of ethics.

The winners of the competition will be announced and awarded at the 2021 UN Human Rights Awards Gala, held annually on the occasion of the International Day of Human Rights, in December.
