Moldovan Agriculture Ministry, USAID to identify new possibilities of extending partnership

Chisinau, 21 October /MOLDPRES/ - The Agriculture  and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), jointly with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), have considered new opportunities of cooperation on the segments related to agriculture. For this, competent minister Viorel Gherciu today had a meeting with Head of the USAID Mission in Chisinau Scott Hocklander.    

„We appreciate the efforts of USAID, which significantly contributes to improving the quality of life of the Moldovan citizens through the implementation of projects on external technical and financial assistance, as well as through the dissemination of good practices. Through the projects implemented by USAID in Moldova, we manage to strengthen the country’s economy, to consolidate the competitiveness and efficiency in the key industries of Moldova,’’ Gherciu said.   

According to the official, due to the support constantly provided, ‘’we enhance the productivity at the value chains, extend the connections between the local market and the regional market and the international one, improve the environment of simulating the economic sectors, strengthen the capacities of agricultural producers, in order to generate high-value products.’’   

The sides referred to the need to extend the cooperation, in order to develop the horticulture, revitalize the animal husbandry sector and back it through the modernization of zoo-technical exploitations, increasing the livestock. The sides also discussed the rehabilitation and extension of the irrigation systems, promotion of equipment and innovations for mechanized works, including the processes of harvesting, depositing and post-harvesting.      

For his part, USAID director Scott Hocklander showed openness for the deepening of the present dialogue between the institutions and for identifying instruments of providing support through technical and financial assistance, in order to develop the agricultural sector.  

Moldova has so far benefited from investments in the agricultural sector worth about 50 million dollars, with the USAID’s support, through the Moldova Competitiveness Project and High Value Agriculture Activity in Moldova project.
