Moldovan PM, European Commissioner approach research sector development

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/- On an official visit to Brussels, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița met today with Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. The talks focused on the opportunities of the European Union's Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon Europe, signed today by the two officials, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

Natalia Gavrilița voiced confidence that the Horizon Europe program will contribute significantly to the development of research and innovation in our country, as well as to the country's integration into the European Research Area. She said that at present, 10 universities in Moldova use the HEInnovate self-assessment tool.

The official noted that Moldova is interested in continuing to participate in European projects aimed at digital education, youth employment and using potential of young entrepreneurs - European Alliance for Apprenticeships, and the programs Youth4Youth, Erasmus + and European Corps of solidarity that will allow students to work and gain new professional skills while studying.

In this context, Natalia Gavrilița spoke about the actions of the new government in Chisinau for reforming the education system, organizing the education process during the pandemic, supporting research and culture. The officials stressed the importance of associating the Republic of Moldova with the new Creative Europe Program and participating in the EU4Culture project, which aims to develop cultural development strategies.
