Exhibition of photos on history of diplomatic suit inaugurated at headquarters of Moldova's Foreign Affairs Ministry

Chisinau, 27 October /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of photos titled, History of diplomatic suit, was inaugurated at the headquarters of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE). The event is occasioned by the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the relations of the Moldovan-Romanian diplomacies. Attending the exhibition were Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita and other representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau, the MAEIE press service has reported.    

In the opening of the event, the Moldovan diplomacy head, Nicu Popescu, stressed that Romania had been the first state to recognize Moldova’s independence. At the same time, Popescu noted that, in these 30 years, Romania had been by the side of Moldova, by providing support in the promotion of the international recognition of the independence, defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity, strengthening the democratic institutions and getting closer to the European values and principles.    

„Romania backed us in the efforts of conclusion and subsequently implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union, signed in 2014, including on the component of free trade, as well as in order to liberalize the visa regime for Moldova’s citizens – a goal reached in 2014. Each time, Romania acted as a reliable partner and a true friend, being the first country to intervene with scholarships, humanitarian assistance, teams of rescuers and physicians, food products, fuel, substantial donations of equipment and sanitary devices, anti-COVID-19 vaccines, being by the side and responding promptly in the crisis moments,’’ Minister Nicu Popescu said.       

In their speeches, the officials referred to the solid relations established between the two countries, from the sectoral cooperation and joint projects carried out including with European funds between the competent ministries, to twinnings between settlements from the two banks of Prut or projects between non-governmental associations.    

„Romania is the principal commercial and economic partner of Moldova, a gate for the local products to the European Union’s market and bridge of energy connection and in the infrastructure transports with Europe,’’ Ambassador Daniel Ionita said.  

In the end, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu made an invitation to the diplomatic corps to pay special attention to the cultural relations between Moldova and the countries which they represent, especially in the context of the marking of the diplomatic anniversaries with these countries in 2022.   

Context note: The exhibition inaugurated is created based on archive documents and presents the first pictures and regulations of the diplomatic suit, ceremonial and protocol described by the Romanian diplomats accredited at the court of the Russian Tsars, in the Ottoman Empire, at the Royal Court of the Great Britain, republican ceremonial and protocol to a visit by Romanian kings to France, wear of the diplomatic suit on the inter-war period, the state ceremonial and protocol in the Republic of Polish Pans and the generalized introduction of the new civil uniforms.
