Moldovan, European officials approach gas, electricity supply sources

Chisinau, 28 October /MOLDPRES/- Possibility to diversify Moldova's gas and electricity supply sources was discussed in Brussels at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița and Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.

The Prime Minister said that the support of the European Union is crucial for ensuring the energy security and independence of our country, and adjusting the policies in the field to European standards and connecting to the EU energy market remains a priority of the Chisinau Executive.

"Given the current challenges, we are interested in having a permanent high-level dialogue with the EU in the energy sector, which will help us address priority issues and identify areas where assistance from the European side is needed," she said.

In this context, Natalia Gavrilița referred to the difficult situation on the gas market in the Republic of Moldova, noting that the Government is involved in negotiations to resolve this crisis, given that so far the country has been dependent on a single source of supply. At the same time, the Prime Minister referred to the discussions initiated on this subject with the countries in the region and the projects that would allow in the future the supply of the Republic of Moldova with gas and electricity from alternative sources.

Kadri Simson stressed the importance of advancing in the implementation of projects that will contribute to increasing the level of energy security of our country and expressed the EU's willingness to provide the necessary support in overcoming the existing difficulties.
