Chisinau, 29 October /MOLDPRES/ - A project on improving the local residents’ quality of life has started in the northern Rezina city, through the ensuring of access to the sewerage system, backed by Slovakia. A launch conference on 28 October brought together representatives of the Regional Development Agency (ADR) Senec-Pezinok of Slovakia, Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry of Moldova, Centru Regional Development Agency (ADR Centru), Rezina city hall, local councilors and civil society’s representatives.

The project’s goal is to improve the living standards through a better access to the sewerage system and increasing the degree of awareness about the purification of the residual waters. The assistance is based on two interconnected results: support for providing quality infrastructure in the water and sewerage sector – construction of a part of the sewerage system in Rezina (3,390 metres); work with the public, in order to enhance the degree of awareness about the treatment of residual waters and responsible approaching of the environment.

„A poorly developed sewerage system is one of the factors which create improper sanitary conditions. In Rezina, the access to the sewerage system is ensured at a level of 61 per cent of the residents, which is not sufficient for the urban area. The project’s goal is to additionally connect 7.4 per cent, which represents 225 households (869 people). The project contributes also to other local initiatives, which regard the improvement of the sewerage systems (for instance, a new station for purifying residual waters). The connection to the sewerage system built and the work with the public will allow a better protection of the soil, underground waters and the Dniester river,’’ ADR Centru said.

According to the project manager, representative of the Regional Development Agency Senec-Pezinok Eva Balazovicova, the activities planned within the project are meant to strengthen even more the friendship relations between the two countries, as well as to improve the quality of life of the Rezina residents. ‘’Through the carrying out of the actions set, Slovakia will financially support Moldova’s citizens and directly the ones of the region,’’ Balazovicova noted.

The project’s overall value is of 218,020 euros, with most of the sum financed by the Slovakian side. Also, 19,820 euros is the contribution of the Regional Development Agency Senec-Pezinok. The duration of the project’s implementation is planned for October 2021-March 2023.
