Eight schools in Moldova energy efficient with support of Germany, EU

Chisinau, 4 November /MOLDPRES/- Constantin Spătaru theoretical high school in Leova has recently hosted a round table on the results obtained in the implementation of the energy management system in eight schools, beneficiaries of energy efficiency projects in buildings, funded by the European Union. The event was organized with the support of the Agency for International Cooperation of Germany (GIZ), within the project Modernization of local public services in the Republic of Moldova.

Representatives of energy management teams from educational institutions in the country and the German Agency for International Cooperation GIZ exchanged views on the benefits in implementing the energy management system, the action plan for energy efficiency, identified challenges and solutions to ensure sustainability in the administration of the energy management system in public institutions.

The participants got acquainted with the presentations made by the energy management teams from the high schools from Leova, Ungheni, and the gymnasium from Flămânzeni (Sângerei district), the data regarding the monitoring of energy and water consumption in the respective institutions. Participants in the event spoke about their experiences in carrying out activities involving students and parents in the community and district and appreciated the assistance that allowed them to inform the community about energy efficiency, ensure transparency and quality of work by monitoring them by monitoring groups. consisting of parents and other community members.

The representatives of the schools also found that the development of the renovation works during the school year affected the educational process, but they all agreed that the subsequent beneficial effects deserve the patience shown. Some participants mentioned the growing interest of many young people in energy efficiency. Although in some institutions the renovation works are not yet completed, the number of students enrolled on September 1, 2021 has increased compared to the previous year.

A special challenge, mentioned by the school representatives, is related to the normative framework in the country and to the budgetary regulations that lead to the impossibility of accumulating savings for capital investments. In this regard, the participants proposed some solutions, one of which would be planning the school budget not for a year, but for a period of 3-5 years.

Eight schools in the country: "Constantin Spătaru" theoretical high schools in Leova, "Matei Basarab" in Basarabeasca (Southern Development Region), "Mihai Eminescu" in Ungheni, "Ion Vatamanu" in Straseni, Holercani in Holercani village, Dubasari district, and "Alexei Mateevici" from Soldanesti (Center Development Region), "Dimitrie Cantemir" High School from Balti and "Iurie Boghiu" Gymnasium from Flămânzeni village, Sangerei district (North Development Region), during 2019-2020, received assistance from GIZ Moldova in the implementation of an energy management system, including the elaboration of the energy management plan with an action plan in energy efficiency for 2021.
