Moldovan sportspeople win medals at international judo competitions

Chisinau, 9 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s judo team has won a silver medal at the world competition Baku Grand Slam, held in the capital of Azerbaijan on 4-7 November.
Seven Moldovan sportspeople participated in the competition and judoka Denis Vieru, who performed at the weight category of 66 kg, won the silver medal after the battle against sportspeople from Mongolia, Georgia and Japan and was defeated by Azeri judoka Orkhan Safarov. At the same competition, judoka Dorin Gotonoaga, weight category of 81 kg, ranked fifth and Nicolae Foca, 60 kg, was on the seventh position.
At the same time, the Under-23 National Judo Team, made up of ten sportspeople, on 1-7 November participated in the U-23 European Championship in Budapest. Judoka Radu Izvoreanu won the silver medal at the weight category of 66 kg. He gained victory against representatives from Lithuania, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Russia and was defeated by Romanian Lucian Bors Dumitrescu.
The participation of the National Judo Team in these competitions was possible with the financial support of the Education and Research Ministry and the sportspeople will benefit from money prizes provided by the Ministry at the Sports Gala, due to held at the end of this year.
