Advertising of gambling may be prohibited

Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/- The draft law aimed at banning gambling advertising was approved today by the Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance and will be submitted to MPs for consideration.
The project provides for a ban on advertising on lotteries, betting on competitions and sporting events and other forms of gambling services, including online gambling.
The legislative initiative belongs to a group of deputies of the Parliamentary Faction Action and Solidarity Party.
Dumitru Alaiba, chairman of the Economy, Budget and Finance Committee, mentioned at the meeting that more than 1.3 million lottery tickets are sold daily in Moldova, most of them being purchased by vulnerable people. "Gambling must be less attractive, so we must limit advertising and protect the population," Alaiba said.
If voted by Parliament, the bill provides for the amendment of the Law on the organization and conduct of gambling, the Law on advertising, the Code of audiovisual media services and the Code of Contravention.
