Moldovan cabinet approves measures to support disadvantaged families on cold period of year

Chisinau, 10 November /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers, given the increase of the tariffs for utilities (electric energy, gas, wood, coal), today approved a draft government decision, through which decision-makers will extend the coverage of the social assistance programme, so that more disadvantaged families benefit from assistance on the cold period of the year, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
To this end, the government will increase the multiplier for the monthly guaranteed minimum income, used for establishing the right to assistance for the cold period of the year, from 2.2 to 2.6 points. As a result of these changes, another 86,000 disadvantaged families will benefit from assistance for the cold period of the year on the period November 2021- March 2022.
Also today, the government will approve, under decision, also the increase in the quantum of the assistance for the cold period of the year, from 500 to 700 lei, as well as the threshold of eligibility at the calculation of the score of the well-being indicators (proxy) by 2.82 points.
The approval of the two drafts will allow increasing the quantum of the help for the cold period of the year from 500 to 700 lei for 214,000 families beneficiaries and additionally cover about 86,000 families with the benefit for the period of the year in a quantum of 700 lei.
