Moldovan painter would have turned 110 today

Chisinau, 14 November /MOLDPRES/- Today we mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of Romanian painter and graphic artist Victor Rusu-Ciobanu. He is the older brother of painter Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu.
He illustrated books by Vasile Alecsandri (“Doine and legends”), George Coșbuc (“Poems”), Radu Theodoru (“Furrow and paloș”). Also passionate about the history of the Roman Empire, he is the author of a trilogy, dedicated to the memory of Emperor Trajan: "Dacia Felix" (1968), "The Adoptive Son" (1975) and "A Special Destiny" (1980).
He was elected an honorary member of the International Academy of Letters, Art and Culture "Tomasso Campanella" in Rome and awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy, for "High Merits in Art" (1972).
The Spanish poet Rafael Alberti dedicated the poem "Baladas y Canciones del Parana" to him. Other mentions and distinctions: the honorable mention (Leipzig, 1965, 1971) and the “Cultural Merit” (1968).
Victor Rusu-Ciobanu passed away on May 12, 1981, in Bucharest.
