Moldovan writer would have turned 100 today

Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/- Today we mark the 100th birth anniversary of writer Vasile Levițchi, poet, publicist, translator and teacher, emeritus master of arts, holder of the Labor Glory Order.


He dedicated himself to translations. Translated from Latvian writers: Oiar Vacietis, Anna Sakse, Arvids Grigulis; from the Belarusian writer Ghenadii Grigorovici; from Russian writers: Lev Tolstoy, Leonid Leonov, Andrei Platonov, Alexei Tolstoy, Ivan Predun; from Ukrainians Lesia Ucrainka, Yuri Fedicovich, Vladimir Sosiura, Nicolai Tereshenko, Dmitro Pavliciko and Volodymyr Luciuk. He collaborates with the magazines "Basarabia", "Contrafort", "Literatura și arta", "Flux", with the newspaper "Plai românesc" from Chernivtsi, at publications from Suceava, Iași and Bucharest.

He was awarded the Labor Glory Order, the honorary title Master Emeritus in Arts. He is a laureate of the Prizes of the Writers' Union of Moldova and of the Literary Society Iancu Flondor from Rădăuți, the Bacovia Prize.

Vasile Levitchi passed away on October 21, 1997 in Chisinau.
