Contract on construction of Vulcanesti-Chisinau transport overhead power line signed in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 November /MOLDPRES/ - A contract on the construction of a 400-KV transport overhead power line on the direction Vulcanesti-Chisinau was signed on 12 November. This is a quite important project for Moldova, as it will provide more energy independence to the country. Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu made statements to this effect at a news conference on this subject today.
„The document was signed between the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Projects in the Field of Energy (UCIPE) and the Indian Company KEC International, nominated winner of an international tender. This is an important project for ensuring our country’s energy security,’’ Andrei Spinu said.
The project provides for the building of a transport overhead power line of 400 KV and with a length of about 158 km on the direction Vulcanesti-Chisinau. It will cross the area of 35 settlements from nine regions of Moldova, including the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and the Chisinau city. At the same time, the power stations from Chisinau of 330 KV and Vulcanesti of 400 KV will be modernized and extended as well.
„The asynchronous interconnection of the electric energy networks between Moldova and Romania represents an important step for our country in the sense of Moldova’s integration in the European single electric energy market. This will provide an enhanced level of energy security through the diversification of the power supply sources, creating a friendly environment on the country’s electric energy market and will offer a low price for the end consumers,’’ the deputy PM noted.
According to Spinu, the KEC International Indian Company is one of the biggest companies on market, which carried out far-reaching projects in Kazakhstan, Georgia, China, etc. The project is worth about 27 million euros, provided by the World Bank, with three-year duration of implementation.
