Moldova's agricultural strategy discussed with World Bank's experts

Chisinau, 16 November /MOLDPRES/ - The state secretaries of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA) today had a working meeting with World Bank’s representatives. The sides tackled subjects on the ministry’s priorities concerning perspectives for the reformation of the agricultural sector through the light of the new National Strategy of Agricultural and Rural Development (2022-2027).   

Also, the participants in the meeting discussed opportunities of development and restoration of the irrigation systems, attracting financial investments for strengthening the animal husbandry sector, as well as the need to boost the trade with native products on external markets.    

At the same time, World Bank specialists made a presentation of the new Development Policy Operation (OPD), the goal of which is to provide financial support to the Moldovan government.

The MAIA officials referred to the National Strategy of Agricultural and Rural Development (2022-2027). They noted that the strategy had more goals, such as: consolidation of the potential of agricultural sector resilient to climate changes; promoting intelligent, efficient and sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing the export potential backing a sustainable rural social and economic development.

In the end, representatives of Agriculture Ministry and World Bank’s experts stressed their commitment to enhance the competitiveness of the agro-food sector, especially the one focused on the value chains, including with the observance of the environment goals.
