MEDIACOR digital-media production centre uinaugurated at Moldovan State University

Chisinau, 17 November /MOLDPRES/ - Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power, during her official visit to Moldova, today inaugurated MEDIACOR - the first digital-media production centre, which marks a new stage in the development of the creative industries in Moldova.    

Hosted by the Moldovan State University (USM), MEDIACOR provides rooms for cooperation, production, shootings and post-production, which will allow students, professionals and production studios to carry out media productions at the standards of the media industry, applying new technologies, in line with the global tendencies in the digital media.  

„I come from the media production sector and I know how valuable is for us to ensure the access of young professionals and students to modern last-generation technologies. In this way, they learn to create quality content, competitive on the national and international market,’’ Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said.   

MEDIACOR will be a platform of development for entrepreneurs in the fields of creative and media services, which have about 3,000 companies in Moldova; some of them already have cooperation with international partners for audiovisual production, films, cartoons and graphic design.  

Also, more than 1,000 students from the faculties of journalism, IT and communications, as well as specialists and companies in the sector of creative industries will have access to those four zones of video and audio pre-production and post-production from MEDIACOR. It is about the pre-production zone which provides rooms of preparation for shootings, hall for screenings or events, offices for media creation; Data Center Zone, with room for preserving the properties meant for filming; post-production zone, which provides studios for recording the sound, sound mix, dubbing, foley, video editing (colours’ correcting); HiTech production zone , which has two film sets, which could be used for producing TV programmes, vlogging products, etc.    

„USM, with over 10,000 students, is happy to host MEDIACOR. The new media centre provides students from the faculties of journalism, information technologies, economics, mathematics, philology, foreign languages to modern equipment, which will give them possibility to combine the theoretical knowledge with practical one. Thus, we will train specialists who will be able to meet the labour market’s requirements,’’ USM Rector Igor Sarov said.    

The MEDIACOR Centre will be managed by the COR Association, which has been administering the work of the ARTCOR creative centre for two years. The first resident of MEDIACOR is the Schools of Advanced Studies in Journalism.

The creation of MEDIACOR was possible due to the partnership between the U.S. Embassy, USAID, governments of Sweden, United Kingdom, Education and Research Ministry, Culture Ministry, State University of Moldova and COR Association. The partnership’s value is of three million dollars, of which 1.3 million dollars represents the support of USAID, Sweden UK aid.
