Centre of Excellence in Wine Growing from Chisinau to benefit from EU's assistance for modernization

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/ - The European Union has provided two million euros for the modernization and endowment with advanced equipment of the Centre of Excellence in Wine Growing and Wine Making from Chisinau. The renovation works were launched today, on experimental land plots of the institution, where a plantation of plum, cherry and apricot trees, on an area of 0.5 hectares, was created.     

The investments will be aimed at constructing and equipping a didactic and experimental horticultural station, at renovating the organoleptic laboratory and of the cellar, endowment with IT equipment. At the same time, a didactic laboratory of micro-wine making will be equipped, as well as another one of processing horticultural products. Thus, over 300 students and 41 teachers of the centre will benefit from better conditions for education.  

„We hope that, with the carrying out of the construction of the didactic and experimental station, with labs’ equipment, with planting didactic orchards and a vine plantation, the institution will be able to implement the most modern technologies of cultivation and processing of horticultural products, according to the standards of the ecological agriculture. In this way, the specialists trained here will be better educated to cope with the competitive agriculture. We are happy that we enjoy the support of European partners and that, so far, over 61 million euros has been turned to account through the project Moldova’s Orchard for the implementation of over 280 projects and creation of about 9,000 new jobs,’’ the state secretary at the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAIA), Sergiu Gherciu, said.   

For its part, the institution’s leadership said that, in the spring of 2022, two hectares of vine of technical varieties is planned to be planted, such as Fetească Regală, Viorica and Rară Neagră.

Within Moldova’s Orchard project, EU invests, through the European Investment Bank, with the support of Moldova’s government, about 12 million euros for the rehabilitation and endowment of ten education and research institutions. Earlier, investments have been made through the same project at the Moldovan Technical  University and the State Agrarian University, where the sum of renovation and modernization works amounted to about four million euros.
