Well-known Romanian folk music singer passes away

Chisinau, 18 November /MOLDPRES/ - A well-known Romanian folk music singer, Benone Sinulescu, passed away at the age of 84 years today.  

According to the Agerpres News Agency, a TV journalist, Iuliana Tudor, made an announcement to this effect on her Facebook page today.  

Benone Sinulescu was born in the Siriu settlement, Buzau county, Romania, on 24 May 1937. In 1956, he recorded his first songs at the radio. Afterwards, the artist gave concerts in Romania and abroad, most ones with the Ciocarlia Ensemble. He had tours in Moscow, in Kiev. Later on, Sinulescu was employee of the Barbu Lautaru Orchestra of the George Enescu State Philharmonic.  

Benone Sinulescu cooperated with more bands from Romania. In 2002, the artist sold on market the album titled, The Wheel of Life, for which he was awarded the Golden Disc for sales and became the first folk music singer, whose video clip was broadcast on MTV.  

As of 1988, Benone Sinulescu gave more concerts in Chisinau. He cooperated with the Folk Music Orchestra Lautarii (The Fiddlers), Orchestra of Advahov Brothers; he recorded a CD with the band Millennium. ‘’This is a great loss. He was an exceptional artist. Unfortunately, big values of the national Romanian music have lately passed away,’’ conductor, violin player Vitalie Advahov said.   

In 1962, Benone Sinulescu became laureate of the World Festival of Youth and Students from Helsinki. In Romania, he was awarded Labour Medal, Labour Order, Cultural Merit Order, class 4, National Cross of Faithfull Service, class III (2002) and other distinctions. During his career, Benone Sinulescu launched 26 musical albums.
