Chisinau, 19 November /MOLDPRES/- The Customs Service and the Border Police announced today that they are joining forces in a national campaign aimed at informing the public about the negative effects of smuggling on the economy and society. The campaign -Smuggling is a serious disease was initially launched in Romania, and today it is launched in Moldova.

According to the Customs Service, the campaign will be supported by street displays located near several border crossings, awareness spots and roll-ups in various public places in the border towns.

Customs officers warn that smuggled products are those introduced into the country without paying any tax. That means less money in the state budget and less money for vital things: health, education, social assistance, infrastructure. Moreover, the provenance of smuggled products is always questionable, as they are not subject to checks to ensure compliance with hygiene or quality standards.
