Chisinau, 25 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a working meeting with the leadership of the Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz-Yeri, led by Bashkan (governor) Irina Vlah.

According to the presidential press service, the head of state said the Presidential Administration was keeping a close eye on the developments in the Gagauz autonomy and relied on a constructive cooperation with the local governance. ‘’We want the people from Gagauzia to have a better living, just as we want a better life for all citizens of Moldova. Our goal is for each settlement to benefit from opportunities of development and economic growth,’’ Maia Sandu said.

The Gagauz officials informed the head of state about the autonomy’s problems and the projects underway. Also, the sides discussed the need to work out an efficient concept of studying the Romanian and Gagauz languages in the region, so that, upon graduating the school, young people from Gagauzia feel fully integrated in the society.

President Maia Sandu urged the representatives of the local public administration from Gagauzia to back the reforms underway in Moldova, especially in the justice sector and combating corruption. The head of state also reminded about the need to consolidate the society and not limit the citizens’ democratic freedoms. In the end, Maia Sandu said that she would pay a visit to Gagauzia, immediately after the process of foundation of the working bodies of the recently elected People’s Assembly (local parliament) is over.
