First 50,000 doses of Moderna vaccine brought to Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova in this week-end has received the first consignment of Spikevax vaccine, produced by the Moderna company. The batch of 50,400 doses of vaccine was donated through the COVAX Platform.  

According to data by the Health Ministry, the vaccine was received by the National Public Health Company and is to be distributed proportionally to all vaccination centres of Moldova.    

The state secretary at the Health Ministry, Svetlana Nicolaescu, said that the reception of a new type vaccine against COVID-19 was of real support for all Moldova’s citizens. ‘’We hope that the new Moderna vaccine will contribute to the increase in the vaccination rate in Moldova; so that we create the collective immunity, which will allow us cease the spread of the Sars-Cov-2 virus. And this in the context that we face a new danger triggered by the Omicron variant in the world, including in some countries of Europe,’’ Nicolaescu said.      T

The vaccine produced by the Moderna pharmaceutical company use the technology based on the messenger RNA. This type of vaccine teaches the human body to create the antibodies necessary in the fight with SARS-CoV-2. In Moldova, this vaccine is administered to people older than 18 years, according to a scheme of two doses, at an internal of 28 days.      

So far, 931, 138 people have been immunized against COVID-19 with two doses.
