MAI employees detained for smuggling goods worth 1.5 million lei

Chisinau, Nov. 30 / MOLDPRES /- MAI employees were detained for smuggling goods worth 1.5 million lei from the KM7 market. They will also be criminally investigated for drug smuggling.

According to the Customs Service, as a result of the expertise of the goods introduced in the country, drugs worth 200 thousand lei were also detected.

Thus, the law enforcement officers will also be investigated for drug smuggling, the case being connected to the basic criminal case.

At the beginning of this month, the Customs Service and the Intelligence and Security Service, together with the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, detained several MIA employees suspected of smuggling goods. They were introduced into the country through the Transnistrian region and stored in localities in the Security Zone. From here, the goods were taken over by other members of the criminal group, who transported them to the territory controlled by the constitutional authorities of Moldova, using fake license plates and by evading internal customs checkpoints.
