Chisinau, 15 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen discussed the present situation in Moldova and the reforms started by the governance in Brussels today.  ‘’I assured her that our goals remain unchanged and aim at making the citizens’ living better,’’ the head of state said.

According to the presidential press service, President Maia Sandu thanked Ursula von der Leyen for the support provided to Moldova by EU during the entire year, including for the plan on economic recovery worth 600 million euros, for the assistance in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and in the management of the recent energy crisis. The discussions also referred to the cooperation between EU and Moldova in 2022.

The officials welcomed the signing by Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi of the agreement on financing on the Contract on the consolidation of the state and resilience for Moldova. The agreement opens the way to the 60 million euros, provided to Moldova by the European Commission as assistance in the full energy crisis.

The financial assistance is non-refundable and will enter the state budget till late 2021. ‘’The EU support will help us cut the expenses for heating for the low-income people and to strengthen the energy security. This is another gesture of solidarity on behalf of EU for Moldova’s citizens, for which we are grateful,’’ Maia Sandu said in the end of the meeting.
