Chisinau, Dec. 23 / MOLDPRES /- The Official Journal today published the Government's decision to approve the draft law on the establishment of the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. The new structure will operate on the basis of the National Fund for Regional Development, with the takeover of regional and local development projects.

Under the decision, the main objective of the bill is to create a source of financing for the following investment projects: for water and sewerage, which are currently financed from the sources of the National Ecological Fund for energy projects that are financed from the Fund for energy efficiency; for other investment projects in the field of rural development, in particular water supply and sewerage projects and local infrastructure, which are financed from the sources of the National Fund for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Environment.

It also provides for the development of an automated record information system, which will include all projects funded by the Fund.

In the Budget for 2022, eight hundred million lei will be allocated through this fund. Approximately three hundred million lei is earmarked for regional development projects, which will be redirected to: job creation in development regions; urban development, especially in district centers; improving the infrastructure of aqueducts, sewerage systems, etc.

About five hundred million lei will be allocated for local development projects, for the following types of projects: construction and renovation of social infrastructure - schools, kindergartens, houses of culture, playgrounds for children, etc .; improving the infrastructure of aqueducts, sewers, sewage treatment plants, etc .; co-financing of projects implemented with external financing.

Following the approval of the law in the Parliament, the Government will draw up the implementing regulation, and in February the calls for project applications will be announced to the local public administrations.
