Chisinau, Dec. 23 / MOLDPRES /- Chisinau City Council today voted unanimously to set up a municipal commission to improve the regulation on the protection of animals with or without an owner in Chisinau.

Most city councilors considered it necessary to create this commission, which will have responsibilities in identifying problems that have led to an increase in the number of stray dogs in Chisinau and will analyze the need for a municipal direction or enterprise dedicated to the protection of stray animals.

According to the municipal councilor Ruslan Verbitchi, who presented the data of the Municipal Public Health Commission, 1564 people, including 368 children, were assaulted by stray animals this year. "Statistics show an increase in the number of cases of children bitten by stray dogs," said Verbitschi.

At the same time, the municipal councilor Svetlana Popa stated that the reduction of the number of stray dogs can be achieved only by the appearance of a Municipal Center for the adoption of stray animals. "We find that within the Directorate of the housing-communal household there is a section for the protection of stray animals, at the same time the Regia Autosalubritate also deals with stray dogs. The reduction of stray dogs in Chisinau can be done only by the appearance of a municipal adoption center ", mentioned Popa.

According to the decision approved by the municipal councilors, the members of the newly created commission will also establish the organizational chart and the operating costs of the future municipal department or enterprise.
