Moldova's State Hydrometeorological Service to become public authority

Chisinau, 31 December /MOLDPRES/ - The decree on the promulgation of the Law for the amendment of the Law No 1536/1998 on the hydrometeorological activity were published in the Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial) today.  

The document provides for the ruling out of doubling the powers of the State Hydrometeorological Service and the Environment Agency in terms of monitoring the state, quality and pollution of the environment.  

Following the amendments, the Environment Agency will fulfill, without impediments, its basic duty of monitoring the quality of the environment, will manage the monitoring infrastructure (the Reference Environment Laboratory) and will make public information about the state of the environment in Moldova – through the national report in this field.   

At the same time, the State Hydrometeorological Service will ensure the monitoring of the state and evolution of the weather (air temperature, precipitation, humidity), weather conditions. Also, SHS will get the status of public authority, with legal conditions provided on the leadership of the Service, status of its employees (civil servants and auxiliary staff employees). As for the specialists of the Service who will not have the status of civil servant, qualification categories will be established, meant to motivate the professional qualification of specialists and keeping young specialists at work.    

The present law enters into force upon the expiration of the term of one month after the date of its publication in the Official Journal. The government, on a period of 3 months following the date of entrance into force, will bring its normative acts in line with the present law.
