Moldovan drawer, journalist would have turned 70

Chisinau, 1 January /MOLDPRES/ - Drawer, journalist, book editor, with the nicknames Zava or Horia Zava, pseudonym, would have turned 70 years today.  

He was born in Shunduya, Baley district, Chita region of Russia, to deported parents, born in the Zabriceni village, northern Edinet district. Iurie Zavadschi studied at the Letters Faculty of the Moldovan State University (USM), journalism section, (1970-1975) and the Polygraph Institute from Lviv, Ukraine, (unfinished education). He worked assiduously as self-taught person, including the graphic and polygraphic arts. During her years as student, Zavadschi debuted with caricatures at the satire and humour magazine Chipăruş (1970).    

He elaborated the graphical concept of the Glasul Naţiunii (The Voice of the Nation) magazine, the first Latin script publication from Bessarabia under the Soviet occupation (late 1988 –early 1989). Zavadschi participated in the editing of the first numbers of this publication clandestinely, after which he worked as artistic editor of this magazine till 1993. He made the models of the first issues of the newspaper Deşteptarea (Revival) of the People’s Front of Moldova, subsequently renamed Ţara (The Country).     

Iurie Zavadschi worked as painter at the Editura (Editing) service of the National Library (1995-1999), then as librarian at the B.P. Hasdeu Municipal Library (1999-2001). In 2011, he got employed at the Gunivas publishing house, where he worked as editor. As editor, he got involved in the appearance of valuable books, including the Dictionary of the Romanian literature from the beginning till 1900 (2002), Mihai Eminescu, Works in 8 volumes (2008), Russian-Romanian and Romanian-Russian Dictionary (2001). He was the coordinator of the biggest so far Russian-Romanian technical dictionary (2004). The works, Mihai Eminescu. Poetic Work (2018) and Mihai Eminescu. Luceafarul, homage edition (2018) were published with the assistance of Iurie Zavadschi.      

Iurie Zavadschi passed away in Chisinau on 20 April 2018.
