Outbreak of African swine fever reported in Briceni district

Chisinau, 3 January / MOLDPRES /- The Republican Center for Veterinary Diagnosis (CRDV) has confirmed the presence of African swine fever virus (PPA) in samples taken from pigs in a household in the village of Cotiujeni, Briceni district.
According to the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA), as soon as the Territorial Subdivision for Food Safety Edinet (with coverage and Briceni district) was notified about the result of laboratory tests, it started actions to eradicate the outbreak.
The Briceni Commission for Exceptional Situations met, which approved a Plan of Measures, and ANSA started the procedures for notifying the competent structures at national and European Union level, the World Organization for Animal Health, as well as other external partners about the outbreak. African swine fever in the Republic of Moldova.
Last case of African swine fever in Moldova was registered in domestic pigs on August 13, 2021 in Hănășenii Noi village, Leova district and was successfully eradicated.
In this context, ANSA requires citizens not to purchase pork food products from neighboring countries for the purpose of bringing them to the Republic of Moldova, as they will be confiscated and destroyed due to the risk they pose.
