Popular craftswoman says Moldova to survive as nation through authentic carpet

Chisinau, 4 January /MOLDPRES/ - The 2021 year was a year when she managed to supply the collection of carpets with new models made in traditional, Bessarabian style for the director of the complex of trades, Artă Rustică (Rustic Art) from the Clisova Noua village, central Orhei district, Ecaterina Popescu.   

Contacted by MOLDPRES, Ecaterina Popescu said that the basic goal of the institution she leads was to re-establish the traditional motifs and techniques of manufacturing Bessarabian carpets from the 18th-19th century. ‘’It is about that very authentic carpet, which represents part of our cultural treasure. Last year, we managed to promote our cultural identity abroad. Thus, our works completed Moldova’s stand at the exhibition from Dubai. We were present with three carpets with the motif Tree of Life, as well as with a carpet with Moldova’s tourist brand. We also participated in the Days of Chisinau in the Buzau city, Romania, with a part of our collection of carpets, which impressed the public,’’ Ecaterina Popescu noted.       

Ecaterina Popescu was born in the Clisova Noua village, Orhei district, on 4 April 1951. She graduated from the A. Russo State University of Balti. Popescu worked at teacher, mayor of the Clisova Noua village. In 2001, Ecaterina Popescu founded the Artă Rustică Complex of Trades. She participated in the holding of the seventh edition of the Festival of Bessarabian Carpet. Popescu is holder of the Meșter Faur honorific title.
