Chisinau, 4 January /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition of painting and drawing titled, Drumul printre ziduri (Roads between walls) by fine artist Leonid Popescu today was inaugurated at the National Library (BNRM). The exhibition comprises about 40 works. Also, four books by Popescu were launched at the same event.

Attending the event, academician Mihai Cimpoi said that Leonid Popescu was a polyvalent talent, with a special sense of colour. ‘’He painted saints and religious scenes inside the Cathedral from Chisinau, painted dozens of churches in reconstruction in the Carpathian Maramures, Chilia from Danube, Russia and in his native region,’’ Mihai Cimpoi noted. In the context, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said the concerned exhibition was fit in the beginning of the year, as its works are such harmonious, as if they were painted specially for this hall.

Leonid Popescu was born in the Saratenii Vechi village, central Telenesti district, on 22 March 1953. He graduated from the Design Faculty of the Arts and Design Institute from Kharkiv, Ukraine. He is member of the Fine Artists’ Union and of the Writers’ Union of Moldova. Leonid Popescu is one of the painters of the Birth of God Cathedral.
