Joint Control Commission holds first meeting of 2022 year

Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova’s delegation today brought to the attention of the participants in the Joint Control Commission (JCC) new arguments showing an alarming tendency of unilateral increase in the effectives of the power-wielding structures of Tiraspol in the Bender city, which is declared through acts of peacekeeping mission as district with enhanced security regime, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

Thus, on 11 January, a group of so-called ‘’border guards’’ subordinated to the ‘’mgb” (so-called state security ministry) from Tiraspol were noticed by Moldovan policemen nearby the Bender-2 railway station. Equipped in uniforms, the ‘’border guards’’ were hindering the free movement of citizens, subjecting them abusively to papers’ control.

The military observers were demanded on site for documenting these actions, which run counter the Article 3 of the Moldovan-Russian ceasefire agreement signed on 21 July 1992 and decisions approved at the level of the Joint Control Commission. The procedure of coordinating the movement of military observers was procrastinated by Tiraspol representatives till the ‘’border guards’’ left the location where they stayed illegally.

In such circumstances, Moldova’s delegation highlighted the importance of working out an efficient mechanism of monitoring in the Security Zone (decision stipulated in the protocol No 828 from 2017 and not fulfilled) and assessing the actions of the so-called ‘’border guards’’, who destabilize the situation in the perimeter of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces; yet, the Tiraspol representatives opposed the inclusion of these subjects on the meeting’s agenda.

The JCC co-heads on behalf of Moldova, Russia and the Transnistrian region, who held separate meetings for additional consultations did not reach consensus either.

Given that Tiraspol continues blocking the consideration of pressing problems on the platform of the Joint Control Commission, in the lack of an agenda approved, the Commission’s ordinary meeting was adjourned.
