Moldovan speaker meets new UNICEF country representative

Chisinau, January 20 / MOLDPRES /- Speaker Igor Grosu had a meeting today with new UNICEF Country Representative in Moldova Maha Damaj, the parliament's communication and public relations department has reported.
During the talks, Grosu expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by UNICEF in protecting and promoting the rights of children, adolescents and young people in our country. He also discussed the importance of projects on the reform of juvenile justice; providing assistance to children with disabilities and those left without parental care; combating violence against children; access to quality health services for mothers and children and inclusive education.
Another topic addressed was the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic on children and the educational process. "It is necessary to mobilize, cooperate and identify solutions to rectify the situation and minimize the negative effects of the crisis. In this context, we consider it a priority to continue awareness-raising and information campaigns among the population on protection measures and the role of immunization ", he said.
Grosu also referred to several bills that are currently pending, namely inclusive education; boosting nursery networks; developing and adjusting the legislative and regulatory framework to promote the work-life balance of parents and carers.
"We are obliged to do everything in our power to ensure that all children in our country have a happy and protected childhood. We need to make a team to improve their lives, " he said.
