Moldova's delegation to Joint Control Commission demands optimizing mechanism of monitoring in Security Zone

Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ - The members of the Joint Control Commission (JCC) held a meeting in Bender today.  The sides discussed on the current problems in the Security Zone, the most pressing ones dealing with ensuring the free movement of citizens, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.

Moldova’s delegation reiterated that the destabilization of the situation was triggered by the abusive actions of the so-called ‘’border guards’’ and other power wielding structures subordinated to Tiraspol, whose presence in the perimeter of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping  Forces is contrary to the Moldovan-Russian ceasefire agreement signed on 21 July 1992. At the same time, the Moldovan delegation drew attention to certain deficiencies in the way of work of the military observers, which complicate the documentation of each infringement of the regime established.

In the context, Moldova’s delegation referred to a decision accepted by all participants in the Joint Control Commission, fixed in the protocol No 828 from 13 January 2017. Under that decision, the sides deemed as necessary to create, in a three-month period, a mechanism of monitoring the situation, applicable in the case of its worsening.

Taking into account that the decision from 2017 has remained unfulfilled so far, the Moldovan delegation proposed to re-bring this subject on JCC’s official agenda, by starting working out a document which would optimize the present mechanism of monitoring in the Security Zone.

This proposal, promoted during more months, is not backed by the Transnistrian delegation, which covers the abuses of the Tiraspol power wielding structures in the Security Zone.

At this working meeting too, the Tiraspol representatives opposed the inclusion of topical subjects on the agenda, for which reason the ordinary meeting was postponed for one week.
