Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - The conditions of selection of candidates for the office of prosecutor general or head of specialized prosecutor’s offices will be amended. The MPs adopted a draft law to this effect in the second reading today.
Thus, people with a professional experience of ten years in the law sector, gained both in Moldova and abroad, will be able to put up their candidacies for the office of general prosecutor or head of specialized prosecutor’s offices.
Also, the draft law provides for the establishment of an independent commission, made up of people from outside the system, which is to be involved in the procedure of appointment of the chief prosecutor from the specialized prosecutor’s offices. This Commission will be made up of five members: one nominated by the Justice Ministry, one – by the Moldovan President and three ones – by the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP).
According to the procedure, the special commission will organize interviews, will verify the integrity of candidates and will submit the full list of candidates, with the points and results of the evaluation, to the Superior Council of Prosecutors. CSP has also right to make its own assessment of the files and, respectively, to select the candidate due to be put forward to the prosecutor general for appointment. Thus, CSP has right to select any candidate admitted to the contest, even if he/she was not nominated winner of the contest by the special commission.
