Farmers from five districts discussed National Strategy for Agricultural Development

Chisinau, January 24 / MOLDPRES /- Draft of National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development 2022-2027 was submitted to debate late last week at a meeting between leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and farmers and representatives of local public authorities from Ungheni, Falesti, Sangerei, Nisporeni, Telenesti and Calarasi.

The talks aimed to set a consensus and a broad vision on medium- and long-term development goals, so that the document fits the needs and interests of farmers.

"The new strategy is a document that represents the vision and priorities of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to stimulate competitiveness in the agri-food sector, to focus on value chains, to protect the environment and to increase resilience to climate change. I mention that, through the document, we aim to strengthen food security and safety, to ensure a better life in rural communities. In this regard, the parties involved in developing the strategy assessed the situation in the sector and prioritized the areas of intervention. We want to have a constructive communication with the main stakeholders and to satisfy the interests of farmers ", minister Viorel Gherciu said.

During the presentation of the Strategy, Anatolie Fală, Secretary General of State of the Ministry, explained that the document defines four general strategic objectives, which aim to strengthen the potential of the agricultural sector resilient to climate change, promote smart, efficient and sustainable agricultural practices, develop the local market as well as supporting sustainable rural socio-economic development.

"Achieving the general objectives will be achieved through a set of specific objectives from which will derive the Sectoral Programs and Plans of concrete measures and interventions. The new Strategy will ensure the continuity of the activities provided by the previous Strategy and will contribute to the implementation of the National Development Strategy Moldova 2030, respecting the commitments regarding the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda ", said Anatolie Fală.

The National Strategy for Agricultural and Rural Development for 2022-2027 was worked out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, in an extended participatory process, with the methodological and financial support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), under the Agreement on Financing the Program Rural Economic and Climate Resilience Inclusive.
