Chisinau, January 24 / MOLDPRES /- Căinari city, Causeni district, will benefit this year from a rebuilt water supply system.
The project will be supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the My Community Program, and will be implemented by IREX (International Research and Exchange Council).
The water supply system from Căinari will be rebuilt on a portion of about 5.2 thousand meters. The rehabilitation of the aqueduct over a length of 3297 meters will be financed by USAID, and over a sector of 1882 meters - by the local public administration.
According to Căinari city hall, a grant agreement in this regard was signed at the end of last year by mayor of the city Maria Ghelan and director of My Community Program Daniel Şerban.
The total value of the project from Căinari is about 100.8 thousand dollars, of which a third is the contribution of the locality, and the rest - the USAID grant. The city council claims that at the call for projects launched by donors, the issue of aqueduct, 85% used, was identified as a priority by the community. Last year, after a large part of the equipment in the locality did not work, more than half of the locals did not have tap water, although they paid the bills in a disciplined manner. There are over 1500 households in Căinari.
My Community is USAID's core local government program and aims to support local public authorities to become more efficient, transparent and accountable to citizens, as well as to provide technical assistance and training to city hall employees in order to responds to the needs of citizens. The assistance of the program is primarily aimed at local public authorities at the first level, and will also be supported by civic groups and the local business community, as their advocacy skills improve.
