Thin ice warning remain in force in Moldova till 31 January

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Hydrological Centre of the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has extended till 31 January the warning as to the danger posed by the ice created on water basins because of the night-time frost.   

According to hydrologists, ‘’the process of formation of ice, in floating formations, will continue on the rivers and water basins from the country and ice bridge will appear on several segments of small rivers. The setting of ice bridge is possible on the Prut and Dniester rivers, with the formation of ice streams,’’ SHS said. 

The ice is thin; the getting on it poses danger and in this respect, rescuers warn residents to prove prudence nearby water basins. The warning is addressed, first of all, to parents of minors, who are recommended to be quite attentive and monitor where their children play. People fond of fishing in ice holes should be prudent too.  

According to meteorologists, on the days to come, the air temperature will drop to -8 Celsius degrees at night. During the day, the weather will slightly warm, with the air temperatures oscillating between 0 and +5 degrees.
